The Gristmill is notable for being the only power-consuming building in the Folktails food production chain, as all other Folktails food buildings (Grill, Bakery) run on fuel alone. Wheat Flour is an essential intermediate ingredient that feeds into the Bakery for making both Bread and Maple Pastries.

Wheat is grown at Farmhouses on arable land and harvested seasonally. Once processed into Wheat Flour at the Gristmill, it becomes the backbone of the Folktails baking economy. The Bakery uses Wheat Flour as its primary input for two of its three recipes: 1 Wheat Flour produces 5 Bread, or 1 Wheat Flour combined with 1 Maple Syrup produces 3 Maple Pastries. This makes Wheat Flour one of the highest-leverage ingredients in the Folktails diet, as a single unit can generate enough food for multiple beavers.

Because the Gristmill requires 60 hp of power, it must be connected to your power network, making it important to plan its placement near a Water Wheel, Power Wheel, or other energy source. A single Gristmill processing Wheat Flour at full capacity can supply roughly one Bakery making Bread, since both operate on approximately 1-hour cycles. For larger colonies, run multiple Gristmills in parallel and stockpile Wheat Flour between harvest seasons to keep your Bakeries running during times when fresh Wheat is unavailable. Pairing the Wheat to Flour recipe with the Cattail Root to Flour recipe at the same Gristmill (by switching recipes or building a second mill) provides maximum flexibility.
