Corn to Rations

iron_teeth

The Corn to Rations recipe processes 1 Corn into 5 Corn Rations at the Food Factory, an Iron Teeth exclusive building. Each batch takes 0.5 hours and requires 120 horsepower plus 0.1 Logs as fuel. Corn Rations are a solid mid-game food option for Iron Teeth colonies, offering a respectable 1:5 conversion ratio with fast crafting speed. The Food Factory is a versatile building that can switch between Corn Rations, Eggplant Rations, and Algae Rations.

What makes Corn to Rations attractive compared to other Food Factory recipes is its simplicity: Corn is the only input required, with no Canola Oil needed. This makes it an excellent early Food Factory recipe that does not place additional strain on your Oil Press production. Corn is grown at Farmhouses and provides a reliable crop yield. The 0.5-hour crafting time means a single Food Factory can produce 10 batches (50 Corn Rations) in a standard workday, feeding a substantial portion of your colony.

The tradeoff for this simplicity is that Corn Rations yield slightly fewer units per batch compared to the Canola Oil-enhanced recipes (Eggplant and Algae Rations produce 6 each). However, the lack of a secondary ingredient requirement often outweighs this small difference, especially in the early-to-mid game when Oil Press capacity is limited. For best results, dedicate several Farmhouses to Corn production and keep the Food Factory stocked. As your Oil Press infrastructure matures, you can gradually shift Food Factory production toward higher-yield Eggplant or Algae Rations while keeping a Corn Rations line running as a reliable backup.
