Badwater Seep

badwater_seep

Badwater Seeps are small natural structures that produce Badwater at limited pressure, filling only to the height of one tile. They function as the contaminated counterpart to Water Seeps, creating shallow pools of toxic Badwater that can harm beavers, kill crops, and contaminate nearby terrain. While their limited output means they pose less immediate danger than full Badwater Sources, they still require careful management to prevent localized contamination from spreading into inhabited or agricultural areas.

During the Temperate season, Badwater Seeps continuously produce small amounts of contaminated fluid that pools around their location. Because the water pressure is limited to a single tile height, the contamination tends to stay localized unless terrain slopes carry it downhill toward settlements. During Drought periods, Badwater Seeps cease flowing along with all other fluid sources. During Badtide events, they continue producing Badwater, adding to the overall contamination that already pours from both Water Sources and Badwater Sources. The relatively low output of Badwater Seeps makes them manageable, but ignoring them entirely can lead to slow, creeping contamination that damages nearby crops over time.

Managing Badwater Seeps involves either containing their output with levees and barriers or finding ways to harvest the Badwater as an industrial resource. Small dams built around a Badwater Seep can trap the contaminated fluid in a contained area where it cannot reach farmland or water supplies. Alternatively, players can place Badwater Pumps near seeps to collect the toxic fluid for processing into Extract via Centrifuges or into Explosives at an Explosives Factory. On maps with multiple Badwater Seeps, strategic containment becomes a significant factor in district planning, as players must balance proximity to resources against the risk of contamination spreading during unexpected weather shifts.
