Mangrove

Mangrove is an Iron Teeth-exclusive aquatic tree that grows in water, reaching maturity in 10 days and yielding 2 Logs when felled. Its standout feature is its secondary resource, Mangrove Fruits, which are gathered by Gatherer Flags every 10 days and serve as a raw food source for beavers. As the only tree in Timberborn that thrives in water tiles, the Mangrove opens up an entirely new dimension of resource production for Iron Teeth players, allowing them to convert rivers, lakes, and flooded areas into productive orchards that generate both lumber and food simultaneously. With only 6 days of drought resistance, Mangroves are the most vulnerable tree to dry spells, which is especially relevant since drought reduces water levels that Mangroves depend on.
Mangrove Fruits are eaten raw and require no processing, making them one of the simplest food sources available to the Iron Teeth faction. Gatherer Flags placed near Mangrove groves will continuously collect fruit from mature trees, providing a steady passive food income that complements farm-based crop production. Because Mangroves grow in water, they do not compete with land-based crops, buildings, or other trees for space. This means Iron Teeth players can effectively double their productive terrain by utilizing waterways that would otherwise serve only as irrigation or transportation channels.
Strategically, Mangrove trees are one of the Iron Teeth faction's greatest assets. Their 10-day growth cycle is relatively fast, and their aquatic nature means they naturally stay watered as long as the water level remains sufficient. On maps with large bodies of water, planting extensive Mangrove groves can dramatically boost both food and lumber output without sacrificing any buildable land. During droughts, however, water levels may drop and expose Mangrove roots, potentially halting growth or killing immature trees after just 6 days without water. Players should account for water management when planning Mangrove plantations, using dams and levees to maintain water levels in key growing areas. Pairing Mangroves with land-based trees like Birch, Pine, or Oak creates a comprehensive forestry operation that covers both wet and dry terrain. For Iron Teeth players who lack access to Folktails food trees like Chestnut and Maple, the Mangrove serves as the primary tree-based food source, making it essential for any settlement built near significant water features.
