Aquatic Farmhouse

food

The Aquatic Farmhouse is a specialized Folktails building that unlocks for 250 Science Points, allowing your beavers to cultivate crops in shallow water. Employing 1 to 2 farmers, this structure must be positioned above water with stairs or slopes providing access to the submerged farmland below. It grows two aquatic crops: Cattail (which yields Cattail Roots) and Spadderdock. These water-based crops open up entirely new food production chains that complement your land-based farming from the Efficient Farmhouse, letting you exploit river channels and flooded areas that would otherwise sit unused.

Both crops harvested by the Aquatic Farmhouse feed into valuable processing pathways. Cattail Roots are sent to a Gristmill, where they become Cattail Flour (requiring 60 horsepower), which then travels to a Bakery to produce Cattail Crackers (4 per flour unit in just 0.5 hours). Spadderdock goes directly to a Grill, where it transforms into Grilled Spadderdock (3 per raw unit). These processed foods contribute to your colony's food variety, boosting overall beaver wellbeing. One Gristmill producing Cattail Flour can supply roughly 2 Bakeries making Cattail Crackers, so plan your ratios accordingly to avoid bottlenecks in the production chain.

When placing Aquatic Farmhouses, water management is paramount. Crops require a water depth of less than 1 unit to grow, so you need careful control of water levels through dams, floodgates, and levees. It is strongly advisable to establish Badtide management infrastructure before building Aquatic Farmhouses, since you do not want your beavers or crops exposed to contaminated water. Beehives can boost aquatic crop growth just like land crops, so placing one nearby is well worth the investment. The Aquatic Farmhouse pairs naturally with the Tapper's Shack (which harvests Maple Syrup from riverside Maple Trees), creating a water-district food hub that maximizes your use of riverfront real estate.
