Efficient Farmhouse

food

The Efficient Farmhouse is the Folktails faction's primary crop cultivation building, available from the very start of the game at no Science Point cost. Employing up to 2 farmers on its 3x2 footprint, this versatile structure handles all Folktail land-based crops, including Carrots (4-day growth, yields 3), Potatoes (6-day growth, yields 1), Wheat (10-day growth, yields 3), and Sunflowers (5-day growth, yields 2). Built for just 25 Logs, the Efficient Farmhouse forms the foundation of every Folktails food production chain. Its farmers plant seeds on irrigated farmland, tend the growing crops, and harvest them when mature, storing up to 50 units of each crop type internally before haulers transport goods to your warehouses.

Choosing which crops to prioritize is a critical strategic decision that shapes your entire food processing infrastructure. Carrots and Sunflower Seeds can be consumed raw, making them ideal early-game choices when you lack processing buildings. Potatoes require a Grill to become Grilled Potatoes (yielding 4 per potato), while Wheat must pass through a Gristmill to become Wheat Flour and then through a Bakery to produce Bread (5 per flour) or Maple Pastries (3 per flour plus Maple Syrup). When space is limited, Wheat provides the highest caloric output per tile thanks to its generous processing multiplier. For maximum food variety and the wellbeing bonuses that come with it, experienced players often run multiple Efficient Farmhouses dedicated to different crops simultaneously.

To get the most out of your Efficient Farmhouses, place them adjacent to well-irrigated fields and keep your water infrastructure reliable. A Beehive positioned within 3 tiles of your crops can boost growth rates by roughly 43%, significantly increasing throughput. During droughts, crops without water will wither and die, so pairing your farmhouses with reservoirs, dams, or Water Dumps is essential for long-term survival. Consider building dedicated districts with clusters of Efficient Farmhouses alongside their downstream processors (Grills, Gristmills, and Bakeries) to minimize hauling distances and keep your food supply chain running smoothly through even the harshest dry seasons.
